Bio

Olivia Richardson (she/her) is a printmaker and interdisciplinary artist from Northern Virginia. Her artistic practice includes printmaking, painting, drawing, writing, curation, and music. In 2019, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a minor in Art History from West Virginia University. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in Studio Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies with an emphasis in Art and Visual Culture Education from the University of Arizona in 2022.

Richardson is a co-founder of the Radical Intersectional Printmakers' Guild (RIPG) which was featured in episode 72 of the print podcast, Hello Print Friend, alongside her co-founder Becci Spruill. Her work has been published in A Love Letter to This Bridge Called My Back and the online magazine Synesthesia. Richardson co-curated CondemNATION (2024) for SGCI’s online journal Graphic Impressions and Getting to the Root (2025) at Arizona State University’s Harry Wood Gallery. She has exhibited in Arizona, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and in the Czech Republic. She has presented at the inaugural bell hooks Symposium and at the ABER pre-conference for AERA.

Richardson’s work examines and processes her experience as a Black woman in America through art historical context and social constructs like afrosurrealism, color theory, critical race theory, and feminism. She often leans on humor to highlight the absurdity, and sometimes horror, of these encounters. Her imagery is inspired by cartoons, children’s book illustrations, music, and film. Storytelling is an integral aspect of her practice, as she hopes to catalyze conversations that aid in a broader understanding of the world around us.
